The most important timeframe in a child’s life is from birth to three. At the heart of the Center of Excellence (CoE) for Infants and Toddlers is a loving, nurturing, and educational environment based on current research and the needs of today’s children and families. Times have changed, and in most cases, education has not.
Today’s children require a new paradigm of caregiving, and how we care for our children has a profound effect on each child’s development. We question practices that are justified for no reason other than being held as conventional wisdom. We embrace what works and what children need.
As educators, we have the unique and distinguished role of creating the backdrop for our children to enhance this beautiful learning experience called childhood. Just as the sun does not tell a flower how to bloom, teachers do not dictate how a child grows. We are not the screenwriters of the story of childhood; we are the supporting characters. We are special guests tasked with protecting the script written by the leading actors and actresses. There will be many plot twists along this journey. Some moments may cause us to wonder or be confused, while others will inspire a lifetime of smiles and take our breath away.
When a little one is handed over from parent to caregiver, the first thing the child should notice is the warmth in the teacher’s eyes and the softness in the teacher’s voice. It is this human connection that establishes the safe and loving environment required to promote true growth. All other activities flow from this bond. When we draw children into relationships with us through kindness, the children are inspired to grow in like fashion.
We promote development through experiences fueled by nurturing hearts.
Learning is experiencing something new and then responding to that “newness.” For babies, every interaction is “learning.” Each caress, smell, and movement of the body teaches the child something new, and each encounter inspires the child to respond. That tummy time experience leads to a roll to the side. That wiggle on the ground leads to an eventual crawl, which leads to another developmental milestone.
This is why the beginning years were not designed for “strapped-in” environments that restrict movements. In order to unleash a child’s learning, the child must be free to explore their surroundings.
Learning inspires further learning.
At ExcellED Montessori, we want children to touch, move, explore, experiment, succeed, fail, and to try and try again. This is why we have blended the Montessori framework, which gives a strong foundation of personalized learning, with our own Inquiry-Based Learning curriculum. The inquiry-based model asks questions that inspire curiosity and learning around specific themes:
Can a spider be my friend?
Can you catch a lightning bolt?
Can you fly a hot air balloon to the moon?
Do bugs go to preschool?
These types of questions make learning what it should be – a fun, interactive, and meaningful experience.  When you come to ExcellED, your children are given the opportunity to do what they were born to do.

Developing fine motor skills and movement control is essential for preschoolers. Montessori practical life activities like using tongs to move pompoms from one bowl to another, crushing eggshells, pouring water, and matching games allow children to develop fine motor skills required for writing.
Children get plenty of opportunities to connect with teachers and make virtual friends from across the globe.
